A CLARIFICATION FOR GRANT OF ADDITIONAL PENSION

CLARIFICATION FOR GRANT OF ADDITIONAL PENSION

As per Govt. of India, Ministry of defence letter No.1(11)/2009/D(Pen/Policy) dated 18 Aug 2009 and PCDA(P), Allahabad Most Important Circular No.417 dated 02 Sep 2009, all PDAs are authorized to make payment of additional pension in case the exact date of birth is not available either in the PPO or in the Office Records but an indication regarding the age of pensioner is available in the Office Records/PPO/Discharge certificate.

As per PPO No.S/10126/71, the age of one Ex.Hony. Sub.S.Devasahayam was 45 years in 1971,i.e year of discharge. So DOB is taken as 1-1-1926. Hence, 20% enhancement is applicable to him with effect from 01 Jan 2007.

The above clarification was given by the Record Officer of the Madras Regiment to a query raised by a PDA. This clarification is published for information and guidance of the pensioners as well as the Pension paying banks.

Note: It is observed that almost all the Discharge Certificates/PPOs held by the defence pensioners invariably contains the Age on Enrolment or Age on Discharge. The clarification indicates that it is sufficient to release the additional pension if an indication regarding the age/year of birth is available.

It is earnestly requested that the aged pensioners should not made to run from pillar to post to get date of birth for sanction of additional pension.
