OLD AGE HOME FOR EX-SERVICEMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES AT CHENNAI “ NIMMATHI” ILLAM

There is one old home at Chennai for Ex-servicemen and their families.  This home is run by “War Widows Welfare Association”.

Initially this home was opened only for War Widows.  The entire ex-servicemen community should be grateful to the founders of this home.

Without their hard work and dedication, this would not have been possible to create such a nice home at the heart of Chennai city with ample space and beautiful surroundings.  A physiotherapy unit was sponsored by Smt.Susheela Rajendran.  She donated Rs.1.1 lakh to this home.

Since the number of War Widows reduced with the lapse of time, the administration of the home decided to accommodate other ex-servicemen, their widows and their dependants who are disparately in need of care and shelter.  This is a nice home situated at the centre of the city with all facilities.

Free medical checkup is done every week by specialist medical officers from Govt. hospitals.  Physiotherapy exercise is given to all inmates according to their need.  Food and accommodation are very good with reasonable charges for those who can afford to pay.

Any ex-serviceman or their widows or their dependants who are left alone at home for various reasons, willing to have a different life at their old age are welcome to contact:-

Note: Donations are accepted from public and defence personnel.  At present the inmates are finding very difficult to get medical treatment.  The GOC at Chennai may visit the home and arrange for regular medical treatment through our Military Hospital.  Regular conveyance may be arranged by the GOC to the inmates to go to MH every day.  This will be of great help to them.

The GOC at Chennai can do a lot for the improvement of this Home.

முன்னாள் ராணுவத்தினருக்கும் அவர்தம் குடும்பத்தினருக்கும் சென்னையில் ஓர் முதியோர் இல்லம். “நிம்மதி” இல்லம்.

சுமார் இருபது ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் திருமதி பாமா நடராஜன், திருமதி சுசீலா ராஜேந்திரன் திரு கர்னல் சின்னையா ஆகிய இந்த மூன்று சிறந்த சமூக ஆர்வலர்களால் இந்த “நிம்மதி” இல்லம் தொடங்கப்பட்டது. ஆரம்பத்தில் இந்த இல்லம் போரில் உயிரிழந்த ராணுவ வீரர்களின் விதவைகளின் மறுவாழ்வுக்காக தொடங்கப்பட்டது.  காலபோக்கில் போர் விதவைகளின் எண்ணிக்கை குறைந்து விட்டனர்.  இந்த சூழ்நிலையில் இந்த இல்லத்தில் மற்ற முன்னாள் படை வீரர்களுக்கும் அவர்தம் குடும்பத்தினருக்கும் இடமளிக்கலாம் என்று முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டது.

சென்னை நகரின் மையப்பகுதியில் நல்ல சுகாதாரமான இடத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது இந்த இல்லம்.  அரசின் குறைந்த நிதி உதவியுடனும் பொது மக்களின் நன்கொடையாலும், பென்சன் பெறுபவர்கள் இங்கு தங்கும்போது கொடுக்கும் பணத்தாலும் இந்த இல்லம் நடத்தபடுகிறது.

நல்ல உணவு, காற்றோட்டமான இடம், வாரம் ஒருமுறை மருத்துவ பரிசோதனை, முறையான உடற்பயிற்சிகள் மற்றும் பல சிறப்பம்சங்களை கொண்ட இந்த இல்லத்தில் சேர விரும்புபவர்கள் தொடர்புகொள்ள வேண்டிய முகவரி:-

பொதுமக்களும் ராணுவத்தினரும் இந்த இல்லத்துக்கு தாராளமாக நன்கொடை வழங்கலாம்.  தென் மண்டல ராணுவ தளபதி மூலமாகவும், சென்னையிலுள்ள ராணுவ தலைமை அலுவலக மூலமாகவும் இங்கு தங்கி இருக்கும் முதியோர்களுக்கு ECHS வசதி இல்லாதபட்சத்தில் இவர்களுக்கு மிலிடரி ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் இலவச மருத்துவ வசதி செய்து கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்பதுதான் இவர்களின் கோரிக்கை.

இவர்கள் ராணுவ மருத்துவ மனைக்கு சென்றுவர வாகன வசதி செய்து கொடுத்தல் மிகவும் பயனுள்ளதாக இருக்கும்.
