SCHOLARSHIPS 2013-14

1. Following scholarship and financial grant schemes have been instituted by broad minded Air Veteran members of the Association.

               a)         Sqn Ldr KV Pillai And Smt Saraswati Pillai Scholarship.

               b)         HFO Srinivas Jabali And Smt Pattammal Jabali Scholarship

               c)         George And Mrs Helen De Couto Scholarship

               d)         Air Cmde (Retd) K Lakshmanan and Mrs Meenalochini Laksmanan Financial Grant..

2.            They are meant for wards of Air Veteran members of Tamil Nadu origin.  While the schemes mentioned at 1(a) and 1(b) above, are meant for girl students of XI and aXII standards, the schemes mentioned at 1(c) and (d) are open schemes for both boys and girls attending regular schools.

3.            The selection is based on merit cum means.

4.            Successful applicants will be invited to attend the Anniversary function to be held on 21 Sep 13 at Roopvani Theatre, AF Station, Tambaram, Chennai.  The cheques will be handed over by the sponsorer of the scholarship/financial grant, during the Anniversary function.

5.            Therefore, it is imperative that the filled in application forms are received at this Branch well in time, so that scrutiny and selection are completed by the selection committee and invitations, to attend the function, are sent to the selected applicants, giving adequate time for their preparation to attend the function.

AFA TAMIL NADU BRANCH SCHOLARSHIP SCHEMES

Sqn.Ldr.KV Pillai and Mrs.Saraswathi Pillai Scholarships: The scholarship scheme was instituted by Wg.Cdr.(Retd)KV Rajavopal, VM to perpetuate the memory of his beloved parents.  Two Scholarships of Rs.4500 each per year are available the daughters of Air Veterans who are financially weak, educationally meritorious and studying in classes XI and/or XII standards.  The students of Tamilnadu nativity are only eligible.

FO Srinivasa Jabali and Tmt.Pattammal Jabali Scholarships: HThe scholarship scheme was instituted by Gp Capt (Retd) J Chandrasekhar VSM in the name of his beloved parents.  Two scholarships of Rs.4500 each per year are available for the daughters of Air Veterans of Tamil Nadu nativity who are studying in XI and/or XII standards.  Selection will be based on merit cum means basis.

George and Helen D’Couto Scholarships.  This scholarship scheme was instituted by Gp Capt Eslin D’Couto VM in honour of his beloved parents.  Two Scholarships of Rs.4500 each per year are available for the children (girls and boys) of Air Veterans of Tamil Nadu Branch who are studying in school.  Selection will be based on merit cum means basis.

Financial Grant: Two one time financial grants are instituted by Air Cmde K Lakshmanan AVSM and MRS Meenalochini Lakshmanan.  These grants of Rs.5000 each are available this year for the children (both girls and boys) of Air Veterans of Tamil Nadu nativity who are studying in Secondary and higher secondary standards.  Selection will be based on merit cum means basis.

Geraldine D’couto Marriage Endowment: Gp. Capt Eslin D’Couto has instituted this grant in the memory of his late sister Geraldine D’Couto.  An amount of Rs.10000 to be given to the needy member of the Association for marriage of one daughter.  One such grant would be available each year, starting Sep 2013.

Note: All the above mentioned Scholarships/grants will be presented to the selected applicants during the Anniversary celebrations of this Branch scheduled to be held on 21 Sep 2013.  Hence, the filled in applications to be submitted to AFA Tamil Nadu Branch by 07 Sep 13.  Blank application forms can be collected from the Branch/sub Branch/Chapters.
